JACK SMEDLEY (Fiddle)
Jack is one of the Scottish folk scenes finest young fiddle players. He was brought up in Cullen, on the Banffshire coast of North-East Scotland. For as long as he can remember Jack has maintained a love of folk music from Scotland and further afield.
His interest in music spurred on by following the many bands passing through local festivals. The opportunities given to him as a youngster with local fiddle groups led to Jack moving to Glasgow in 2008 to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
At twenty-five Jack has worked extensively across the UK and Europe.
A 2009 Young Traditional Musician of The Year finalist, Jack quickly teamed up with fellow finalist Adam Holmes and fellow music students Steven Blake and David Foley to form one of the most sought after young folk bands of today – RURA.
Outside of the band Jack is in huge demand as a fiddle tutor and runs an annual fiddle week in Fochabers in April. Known for his energetic and versatile playing, Jack has taken to the stage with many line-ups including Mànran, Paul McKenna Band and The Treacherous Orchestra as well as featuring as a soloist and in string sections/house bands at concerts across Scotland.
